Very small article hidden in todays Bham News. Seems APCO has decided NOT to do their biannual draw down of Lay, Jordan and other "run of the river" lakes because of the drought. They do this every two years so property and business owners can perform maintainence on their piers, seawalls and boat ramps.

All together now...

THEY CANCELLED IT LAST YEAR AS WELL..NOT LIKE WE REALLY NEED IT THIS YEAR..WE WERE OVER 3 FEET DOWN FOR A WHILE...I PLANNED ON DOING SOME PIER REPAIRS AND PROCRASTINATED..THEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN WE HAD WATER AGAIN...I WAS KICKING MYSELF BUT HAPPY TO HAVE THE WATER BACK...MY NEIGHBOR JUST SUNK ABOUT $20000 IN A NICE 3 BAY BOATHOUSE WITH STEEL TRUSSES, SUPER NICE...

ANYONE ON THE WATER WHEN THE STORMS HIT?? WE RAN DOWN RIVER FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS AND ONLY HAD TO ENDURE ABOUT 3 MILES OF THE STORM ON THE WATER COMING BACK..GLAD TO SEE THE RAIN, BUT IT WASN'T NEAR ENOUGH..

I,ve been thinking that some folks in the ends of these sloughs could dig some dirt out and maybe be prepared for the next drought. seawall repairs and construction are expensive. Plan on being out on the water today storm or not after about 1 or so. going to check here and see if anyone else will be out before i start out.........David

We'd have to dig out more dirt than they would approve to make a difference with a draught. :-)

Actually some folks went together last winter and dredged some in our slew to deepen it a little. I was amazed at how much dirt was removed only to gain a foot of extra depth.

Who would've thunk moving dirt could be so expensive!

Chris
