Enabler........."to support the dysfunctional behavior of, as by compensating for it"........... I'm really having a problem with that grub eating varmit that is destroying my peace and quite also leaving my yard looking like a pig done plowed it up. Any suggestions on how to deal with the armadillos.....................I'm tired of enabling his bad habits?!

they key is to remove thier source of food, the grub. This can be accomplished by applying a systemic insecticide to your lawn and shrub beds. Merit is the best brand but expensive. Try home improvement/garden shops for similar products. A .22 long is a good supplemental deterrent as well.

Mine always die of 'lead poisoning'

Yes, they have a very low tolerance to that poison

I assume this is acute lead poisoning as opposed to chronic.......I had always thought that the best way to take care of the Texas state bird is to have tractor trailers drive by at high speed and then you just have to dispose of the carcasses.

You want to keep the carcass intact. Makes a great beer can holder when the armadilla is on its back with the four feet stiff and pointing straight up! (Texas Beer Holder)

I had the same problem last year. Here is how to catch them:

First find the burro hole. Then get a raccoon trap and set it up in front of the hole about 25' to 30' away. Get two boards (I used a 8' 2x6) and form a V from the hole leading to the mouth of the trap. Armadillos are like rats; they use the side of the boards (or walls in a rat’s case) and funnel themselves into the trap. I did not put food in the trap or anything. Just set it and waited.

After catching, a good 410 did the job. It is hard to get them out of the trap alive. So good luck.

I have shot many of the suckers off my front porch and it is a joy to watch. Anybody that thinks they are slow had better not be in the way after they are shot. They will jump high into the air and run in circles like you can not believe. I read where jumping into the air is a defense mechanism. That is why you need to approach them slow in a car or truck when trying to run over them. They will jump up and cause damage to your vehicle.

That 410 probably has something to do with it being hard to get them out alive. I love it. :-)
