I jsut got a call from a friend that wants to move a 55ft Chris Craft from Galveston to Lake Martin. He wanted to know which marina to have it delivered to becaue he didn't know which one had the lift to handle it. I told him he would have to get the lift from Montgomery so He could launch it anyhwere that would let him use the ramp. Which would be best Anchor Bay or Harbor Pointe?

Nice boat, I love the old wooden boats. My first experience on a boat was a big Chris Craft like that one, a friend’s uncle had it and we spent a weekend out on the lake (not our lake). His dad had an old Chris Craft speedboat as well and I will always remember that time. I can only hope the times we spend with our grandkids at the lake will stick with them as did my time on the lake when I was a kid.

Beautiful boat! Tell your friend to have it delivered to our house.. We don't have a forklift yet, but we can figure out the details later.
I'll look forward to seeing it on the lake this year. My husband will be green!

Of course that would not be legal. But if you want to pay to play...

Other than Kowaliga ramp, the Russel ramps would work...

He is checking to see if the trailer he is going to use can me modified to use as a float off. If not then he will have to hire a lift to come in. None of the forklifts on the lake will handle it. At least I don't think any of them have the capacity to handle it. Does Harbor Pointe have a portable lift?

How much does it weigh?

Someone I know had a similar situation. All they had to do was "pay" the extra to the truck driver. Most trailers are not designed to have their wheel bearings submerged. Have your buddy offer him enough to cover all the wheel bearings re-packed and a little for the effort...

On a different note, I hope he has cleaned well inside and out, as we do not need any foreign wildlife brought from distant shores... (Invasive Species) such as mussles and plant growth....

I don't know. didn't ask. I told him to call Water Patrol before bringing it to make sure that he could even launch it. They may refuse to inspect it and geve him the sanitation certification. That would suck.

I cut and pasted your post into an email and sent it to him. The deal is not 100% yet, but he REALLY wants to buy and bring it here. The price is so cheap as to be laughable. I know the PERFECT spot to anchor it also....lmao. Actually several spots on a rotating basis.

If he does manage to get it here there will be one heck of a party to christen it. Of course you and the family will be on the guest list.

Based on the current law, this boat cannot be brought to this lake. It is not under the grandfather law and over 30'6". Would be a colossal waste of his money to bring it here only to be sent away later. Just my opinion.

I explained that very forcefully, but this guy seems determined to do it. He wasn't even aware of the boat ban law till I spoke to him. He is a freind's son-in-law and loves to 'flash'. He wanted to do it becasue he has been on the lake with us a few times and never seen anything that big. He just wanted to have the 'biggest boat' on the lake. It is moored at the same marina that he keeps his sailboat in and was made a heck of a deal on it. That is why my freind told him to call me because I am more familiar with the law. He is hard headed and may do it anyway. I strongly advised him to contact the MP before making a decision. We will all just have to wait and see.
