I think the strobe idea to replace the standard white light is a great idea. Does anyone have a link on where to buy them. The white light, while standing still in the water, just blends into the landscape and shore if it is not moving. I had a friend recommend a blue one, that will keep everyone out of your path :)

This is one of many sites that have them. Just Google 'strobe anchor light'.

Does anyone know if a strobe light can replace the one that exist on pontoon boats or do you have to mount it separately and use a different switch??

I suspect that using a strobe for a running light is illegal. It may be ok for an anchor light.

Call Mitchell Marine in (Eclectic, AL) for a white one to mount to the "rear" of the boat.

Mitchells has them I think the light is around 60.00 They are mounted on the back of the boat. They were suposed to get more in today. They said their phone was ringing off the hook with people wanting them.

It is simple to connect the wire for the strobe light to your anchor light so it comes on and off the same as your anchor light. On a pontoon boat it is easy to locate your anchor light wire where it enters your bimini top frame and follow it to the underside of your deck. At that point connect two new wires that go to the strobe. The anchor light switch works both..

Just remember to use the strobe light in addition to the stern light. The law requires an "all around" or "unbroken" white light, visible for at least 2 miles, as the stern light.
