I didn't know this......I'm not shopping there ever!

Wasn't it last Christmas that Target refused to let the Salvation Army ring their bells
in front of their stores?

Dick Forrey of the Vietnam Veterans Association wrote.

'Recently we asked the local TARGET store to be a proud
sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our
spring recognition event.

We received the following reply
from the local TARGET management:
' Veterans do not meet our
area of giving. We only donate to the arts, social action
groups, gay & lesbian causes, and education.'

So I'm thinking, if the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and
veterans in general, do not meet their donation criteria,
then something is really wrong at this TARGET store. We were
not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, just
a small sponsorship for a memorial remembrance.

As a follow-up, I E-mailed the TARGET U.S. Corporate
Headquarters and their response was the same.
That's their
national policy.

Then I looked into the company further
They will not allow
the Marines to collect for 'Toys for Tots' at any of their
stores. And during the recent Iraq deployment, they would
not allow families of employees who were called up for
active duty to continue their insurance coverage while
they were on military service. Then as I dig further,

TARGET
is a French-owned corporation.

Now, I'm thinking again. If TARGET cannot support American
Veterans, then why should my family and I support their
stores by spending our hard earned America n dollars!

And,
have their profits sent to France

Without the American
Vets, where would France be today?

'They, most likely would be speaking German and trading in Deutsch Marks'

Sincerely,
Dick Forrey

Snopes debunks this.

Target is also not a French owned corporation. They are US based and publicly traded corporation on the NYSE. If they were French owned they would be traded as an ADR and they are not.

I'm glad when stores don't permit solicitation outside their doors. I've got nothing against the Salvation Army or any other group, but I have charities that I support with donations and I don't feel like I can donate to everyone that is soliciting. Last year, there was a young woman who stood outside my supermarket and solicited for the Salvation Army. She really gave it her all, but I didn't observe many people donating. I know I gave her $5 twice because I felt sorry for her standing out there in the cold (VA is colder than AL this time of year by about 15 degrees) and most people just passed her by.

I'm not against charities -- every year I bought oranges from our local Lions Club during the holidays. But suppose every charity wanted to station someone outside the same store? Would you want to wade though them all just to get in or out of the store?

It is alot like trying to wade through all the off TARGET postings from the RIGHT. Hopefully, they will recognize that it is not the Quantity but the Quality of postings. That is where the Progressives shine.
This posting is a perfect example of how the Right is unwilling, or quite possibly unable, to seperate fact from fiction. One can only hope that with the new year approaching they will realize that posting for the sake of posting is not taken seriously by the 1000s who read the Forum. It is time for the Right to research before they post so those us who are Progressive in our thinking can analyze and respond without having to constantly wonder if we are responding to another Right Myth.

2009 will bring hope that the Right will continue to participate even though the country will be moving forward under the able direction of President-elect Obama. I have forwarded to my contact in Chicago that even though Alabama is a RED state, it would be helpful if when making the infastructure list for 2009 to include a new bridge over Blue Creek at Hiway 49. If you have any other projects, please advise.

It's also not unlike wading through all the homeless here in midtown ATL. It's disheartening when so many people are asking for money everywhere you turn. What to do?
