Friends of ours house on Lake Guntersville, was a 3 story house, 3rd story completely demolished by a tornado Friday night. Think we got off light compared to Guntersville. At least they were smart enough to get in the basement.

Bought both a house in Bham and at the lake a Atlantic Scientific NOA Warning radio and the best fifty dollars I have ever spent as you can set the alerts for only the type of alerts you want. We have ours set for Tornado Warning in Bham and both Thunderstorm and Tornadoes at the lake.

See pics in the URL below our friends house is the very first one.

Glad they are ok. I've been thru some bad weather but never a twister. Hopefully never will.

The dings on my truck and car don't look so bad after all. I sure hope everyone is OK. It could have been a lot worse than it was at Lake Martin....even though we had just bought the car Thursday.:-) Oh well the guys at the paint shop will make it all better.

My truck got nailed really good. Body shop it is. I think I am more "upset" over the fig tree. It finally had gotten big enough to have really produced this year. Upset is kinda strong. Disappointed is more correct. Like others, I thought the windows would get busted. Most amusing was my cat. We both volunteer fire and rescue and had one radio on emergency weather. Just as they said seek shelter in a downstairs most secure spot away from windows....., she promptly went into the closet below the fireplace that is filled concrete block walls as if she understood every word. Course, there we are looking out the windows. Makes you wonder who's the more intelligent?

I do think animals sense the weather. Our dog heads for the bathroom every time.

So sorry that so many people around Lake Martin sustained such damage. The news said the storm was gaining momentum as it passed over I-65, and it must have continued to do so as it moved through. It was wild, but thankfully our only damage has been some downed limbs and leaves. We lost our power for a bit when a huge tree in my neighbors yard came down on the lines, but we have a back up generator which ran for about 2 hours before the power was restored.

The Lake Guntersville pictures are frightening. Hopefully, everyone was insured.
