I've got my interpretation of what AL Power will allow for floatation on a dock but thought I'd poll here. I have seen some plastic barrels but are they about to be outlawed? Are plastic barrels allowed? Would they have to be filled with foam or pre-made floatation only? Thanks!

By the way the regulations read it would need to be filled with something so that if puctured it would not sink.

Is that your interpretation?

Punctured they mention but where they really get you is the "manufactured for marine use" part. Wondering if anyone has put this into practice. I actually called one of the L.Martin contractors on this but he never called back... AL Power quote: "Flotation shall be encased or closed cell (extruded) expanded polystyrene of good quality and manufactured for marine use which will not become water-logged or sink when punctured."

I was told, by one of the permit people, that the barrels were not allowed. Even though they are made from the same material as the dock floats and can be filled with the same flotation material.

Makes you wonder if someone at APCO has a brother in law in the dock float biddness?

That's what I needed to know. Shame too, I have a 16 x 16 deck just waiting for some barrels. The "hi-falutin" floats are too expensive... I love this forum!
