Spector looses his primary fight. Karma is a biotch with a long memory.

I am not surprised as he was not going to win in November. He was always interesting to watch on C Span. With his age and recent bout with cancer and chemo, he should have just called it quits with this term. Some politicians never learn when its time to just say Hasta Luego Amigos.

His wife Joan was a Councilwoman in Philadelphia for 16 years then started and built a wholesale frozen pie company, with distributors in thirty states that supplied pies to a major restaurant chain.

I had the pleasure of enjoying many of her apple pies which your wife can make for you to enjoy, too.

It is indeed deliciously ironic that the only reason Benedict Arlen became a Demoncrat because he was going to lose the primary to Toomey. And the Dems justifiably took him in as would the GOP if the shoe were on the other foot.

But this should be a lesson for all the Benedict Arlen's out there from either party that if you have no core principals and are simply out for your own political life you will be punished at the polls. It is rare when someone like Leiberman can successfully move to being an independent.

It is also delightful because it continues the electoral trend that being associated with the Messiah is toxic.

No loss there. It's time for some new blood.

Talented Joan was also the first Philly city council member to demand, and receive a full time driver and security. Sort of Pelosi like. Joan also stood with AFSCME against the city during a municipal employees strike, and refused to attend council meetings. Joan, and Joan Krajewski, with the support of the Street brothers and Fattah, were much like the Boxer / Feinstein team on the left coast, and had free reign during the mayoral terms of Bad Wilson. It took Rendell to exert executive influence and authority to bring some order to that circus.

Did you live in Philly when Wilson decided to drop the bombs on MOVE??? Or, when Rizzo was mayor?

Met Hizzonner on a number of occassions, when he was Police Commish, candidate, and Mayor, left in 77 and returned to the area in late 84, lived in a rental across the park, 67th St., while our future home in Medford was under construction. We were awakened by the gunfire at 06:10 that morning in May, sounded like it was right across the street. Later, heard the muffled explosion, and saw the smoke, and learned the role that Bad Wilson played in the events. They re-elected him anyway. Arlen lost the 67 mayoral race to the unpopular incumbent Jim Tate, because he said his first official act would be to fire Rizzo.

I remember watching it all on TV with Jim Gardner as the fire broke out. I just returned from Philly and Gardner is still doing the news.

We moved to S Jersey in 1975 from Atlanta and I was not a hockey fan. That sure changed quickly when I found out some neighbors were Flyers. I remember the parade downtown after the victory.

My wife and I were riding around one Sunday and drove through a new sub division. I saw theis black guy with his arms resting on a fence and he was just standing there looking around. I said to wifey that guy is huge the fence is 6 ft tall. I stopped and went up to him and realized it was Daryl Dawkins "Chocolate Thunder". He was a nice big kid as he was drafted out of high school.

We left, for the last time in 92, now only return for weddings and funerals. Late 80's, Dad was president of the Philadelphia Bakers Association. Their charity monies went for leukemia research, and they were active with the Eagles Fly for Leukemia. Many of the players supported the team’s effort for this cause. The annual dinner was usually at the Adam's Mark on City Line Ave. 89?90? around that time, a college kid had the mike and was telling his survival story. He offered a little more detail than I could handle, so, I moon walked to the nearest exit, opened the door to the hallway, and collapsed on the floor. It happens, never lasts long, and I recover. This time, as I opened my eyes, there were 5 BIG black dudes standing over me, 2 of them trying to lift me from the floor. I almost passed out again (but didn’t, that would have been racist) then realized one was Reggie White, another Seth Joyner, another was Randall Cunningham. Ben Tamborello joined the group. Had the pleasure of meeting Ben, and his family, at the lake, under far different circumstances about 5 years ago.
