Does anybody know what a delivered cu. yard of concrete is going for per yard in the lake martin area? If it is not too bad a possible boat ramp extension may ensue. Also does anyone have any experience with any concrete companies in the eclectic/real island area? How late were they? etc. Thanks.

I haven't priced any since last summer, but I know prices kept rising during our project (fortunately we contracted a price for most of the job). Timing shouldn't be a problem with any company if you give them reasonable notice......and be careful with the tractor when close to the water (LOL).

I've been quoted $95 cu/yard for residential grade. Price has come down the past year or so due to such less demand.

WOW, that's still high. We paid somewhere around 65-70.

As I was looking at extending a boat ramp 2 years ago and was getting quotes of $95 to $110 per cubic yard and said no thank you.

I'd have to get dad's records for the company. The price was a high volume price given to us in the summer of 2008 and they honored it through the fall as the prices rose. That was also a base price and did not include additives.

I'm a contractor in North Alabama and was just wondering how the prices varied from here to the lake. Everything seems to be more expensive around the lake. However 65-70 per cu. yard sounds pretty great, although it was probably based on the volume being purchased. Will need some aggregate to make a bed for the concrete. Does anybody know what max length is for ramps? Also jlazc has your ramp cracked yet with the rise and fall of the water level?

It's been a little over 2 years and no cracks. I guess we did good even if we(I) did sink the tractor.

I thought that "tractor in the lake bed" warning sounded like the voice of experience.

I have found that you don't even have to be close to the water to find trouble. There are certain pockets in the lake bed that are MUSH that feed on tractor tires. You do have to be careful

So LNG, you are admitting you have had your tractor on the lakebed? Interesting.......

You need to come to the lake sometimes, so you can see what is going on.

of experience it is....and Tate AU was there helping me. I'm fortunate to have both a 4X4 Tractor and a 4X4 Suburban so it wasn't too bad after the initial "Ohhhh S#!T".

Very fortunate... I was surprised that the car pulled the tractor as easily as it did. Last season I almost got my 2500HD Duramax stuck in the lake bed. It would probably be wise to have 4 wheel drive before venturing in the sand. I got a new boat at the end of last season and tried to find your house jlazc by water. I had no such luck I will look again next time we are at the lake. There was also someone tubing behind real island marina who I thought was you as well (almost identical boat) and even looked like it could be your family on the boat. However, when I pulled up next to them it obviously was not you and a little awkward. Speaking of fortunate also a little off topic, there was a tornado in the city of Huntsville tonight that touched down a block and a half from one of our job sites. Luckily I left the site at about 5:15 and the tornado hit at about 5:25 so I dodged a bullet on that one. Luckily there were no serious injuries. Anyways, I have rambled on long enough.

I heard about that tornado on the news last night and its great to hear you are OK. Let me know when you are going to be on the lake and I can vector you in.
