In a brilliant move that is meant to have the Postal Service running in the black this year, the Census Bureau is providing enough junk mail to choke my shredder. First, the teaser letter to let me know that I will be getting a census form to fill out, followed by the much anticipated census form itself, asking me how many people “were living or staying” in the house as of April 1. Prior to the hallowed Census Date, I received another card reminding me to return the census form so that we can have an accurate count of the occupants of this country. Because my crystal ball is still down at Cathouse unrepaired - Steve says he is waiting on parts - and I am not a fatalist with access to “The Book", I would have only two choices - fill out and return the critical survey with potentially inaccurate information, or wait until Census Date to fill it out. I chose the latter option and mailed the survey last week. Checking the mailbox yesterday, I was blessed to receive a SECOND census form…. Now, I am eagerly awaiting two MORE letters from the Census Bureau – the first to thank me for returning the completed survey and the second to tell me that since I did NOT return said survey, that I will be getting a “personal” visit from one of their thugs to knock me around and get the valuable information. Yet another example of our Government’s efficiency, see how easy it is when you always spend someone else’s money?

because I only got the Census Form and none of these other letters you mention. It was no big deal. And I haven't seen a single Census person. I guess I'm just lucky.
BTW, is this your first Census? You and others have made so many posts about it. I suggest you don't buy a new vehicle any time soon. I've been inundated with detailed customer satisfaction surveys since I bought my new vehicle last October.

Blessed or cursed? Not my first census, second one in this marriage, third that I have completed as head of household. I think we are comparing apples and hand grenades though - private companies have a vested interest in keeping the customer happy, that is the driver for the satisfaction polls, the Government is just wasting my money. I dug up the second "important announcement" and, dated March 22, 2010, it states "A few days ago, you should have received"... and "It is important that you respond". It is not like a company is trying to keep me in a "long term relationship", it is a simple way to WASTE more of MY money.

I wonder if they pulled a cross section of the population to send extra notices. No kidding, I haven't got one. It seems a bit excessive to keep sending notices. Makes me wonder if they run a cross check between addresses that have responded and those that haven't. It might be a worthwhile exercise on their part.
Alahusker, why don't you take a powder and give it a rest? Your continual poking at me doesn't change my thinking one bit. You seem like a nice older man, and you served your country with distinction - is this what you are teaching your grandchildren? To harass those that don't agree with you?

And for the record, I got all those SAME mailing from the govmit about my cencus. I figured I was special cuz all I wrote on my form was that one adult and no children live here. I expect a 'personal visit' anytime now.

I had seen an interview with the head of census some time back and he stated that the teaser letter ended up being a cost neutral mailing. I just do not understand mailing TWO items prior to the count date and so far .. two queries. I see this as yet another example of the inefficiencies of our Government. When I need a laugh I just pull up a few articles about the "Bingo Battle" here in Alabama......

I receivd the first census form and read that the information was as of April 1 so I put it aside as it was still March. I received a second form at the end of March that I had not returned the first form so
I called the census and told the gal that I could not fill it out until April 1 since I did not know if my wife would be residing in a prison and now I have recieved the second form. The poor gal was lost and said just a minute. A miute became 10 minutes until she returned. She said considering your sad circumstance it would be best to hold your form until April 1. I then asked her which form should i complete, the first or second one? I could not believe her answer, just a minute let me check. I was so proud of the cesus bureau when she retruned and informed me they are identical forms so it would not matter.
I voted for change and I'm proud of it.

As much as I would like to be able to point to a specific date or change and say "that did it", I can't. This has been many, many years in the making. BTW, did you happen to record the call, or have it on speakerphone so that others could enjoy it.

I took a class with one of the department heads from the Census bureau. It's a huge deal for a group that doesn't get much attention except in a Census year. They get the data and manipulate it twelve ways to Sunday, analyze it and provide hundreds of reports. Big thick things with lots of statistical data. I wonder if anyone ever really reads them. That much statisical data makes my eyes cross and my brain go numb.

We have been inundated with paper from the Census Bureau. My daughter, on the other hand, has not received the first Census form to fill out. She even called to request one and was told she should receive it by April 12. That date has come and gone and her family apparently will not be counted in the Census. Am I surprised..not!

Earlier post said my daughter did not receive Census form. Guess what? Went to visit her today and she received Census yesterday. So, she will be counted. Just wonder how many post cards she will get from the government asking if she received and/or replied to form.
