As long as the PWC stays a good distance behind the other boat what is wrong with "repeatedly jumping wake of another boat"?

That is most of the fun for a PWC, at least the smaller ones.

Not sure of the legal reason, but I can only imagine that it would be quite irritating to me if a PWC was constantly on my tail. I do jump others wakes periodically, but only a time or two then move on.

I know you guys probably don't patrol as heavily at night but I sure would like to see more emphasis put on stopping the pontoon boats from using their docking lights all of the time. It is very irritating and distracting to meet one of these folks with the docking lights on and if you go out at night you will encounter several every time you go out.

We patrol regularly at night, especially on the weekends and holidays. The misuse of docking lights is one of the most common reasons for stopping boats at night. As a reminder, the only lights allowed by law are the red light to port, green light to starboard, and the white light (stern light) visible from 360 degrees. Docking lights and/or spotlights should be used sparingly, if at all, and never directed toward another boat except as an emergency signal.

The law specifically prohibits jumping wakes in close proximity to another vessel. As you may guess, "close proximity" is a relative term. Also, boat operators are required to maintain a "proper lookout"...or be attentive to the traffic around them. Generally those involved in repeated wake jumping are paying little to no attention to the traffic around them.

Then, let me tell you...Every boat on the Real Island / Kowaliga side is having an emergency. I even saw a deckboat at night, planing with their lights on, at about 30-35 mph. Wow...That was a sight...What's the best way to report someone riding your wake when you see someone towing a tube?...I see that a lot. I think they're all usually together...

I think there is a major lack of education when it comes to docking lights (probably most other boating regs too), You see them on with higher frequency over weekends and holidays and I believe most of these folks have no idea they are doing anything wrong.  I'm sure they think more lights equals better visibility when driving around in the dark. Like other boating issues, education is the key.... but I'm not sure of a good way to get the word out to a leisure crowd places little emphasis on anything other than insuring the boat will start when the key is turned.
