Anyone know of a gimmick that actually works?? I have a great flower bed beside my deck that cannot be used at all. As soon as the plants start looking good, the deer pass thru and line up to go thru the Salad Bar. Buzzzz.
I tried an electric fence in a small bed of roses last year. The transformer died a quick death. No go. And, peeing on the bushes upsets the lady next door. Rain/sprinklers wash away DeerGuard that is scattered around. And a 30-06 don't work if I'm not there. Any tricks that actually work??

The only thing we have found that consistently works is Irish Spring soap. Shred it with a grater (like cheese) and spread around plants. Add more soap about every 3 weeks. Works great!!!!

the hair. Go to a hairdresser and ask for hair. Buy a cheap pair of panty hose. Cut off the legs and fill it with hair. Tie the top and hang it.

I will definitely try this.  They have eaten EVERYTHING in my yard that they have never touched before the the five years we have been here.  Do you know if they sell it anywhere close by or will I need to order it?

Just ordered some DeerOut and CritterOut too. Kinda' pricey, but if it works it will be well worth it. I'm gonna load that bed with annuals and tasty shrubs and roses, so it will be a good test. Thanks again, Mack.
BTW, prices on Amazon are the same and shipping is a little more.

A frequent poster has a perfect remedy.  He has a basset hound that runs off any deer from his property and his neighbors.  Only catch is that while the hound is at work anyone in that part of the county can hear his escapades.  Now this method only works if the hound is not sleeping on his sofa indoors.

I second the Irish Spring soap approach. I'm a master gardener and have used that for years. Dirt

He's a Beagle not a Bassett and he has his own loveseat, not a sofa.  Get your facts straight, and just so you know, he does a darn fine job of keeping the deer at bay around my house, my neighbors house, the house on the other side of the neighbor, and the remainder of the point, as well as my corner of the county.

I was attempting to skew the details just enough to protect your and the BEAGLE's privacy.  I figured if I changed just enough details (breed and furniture) and omit location, perhaps y'all would remain in anonymous.  I sure don't want anyone in Elmore County in the Real Island area to come "borrow" your forum namesake.  I know a beagle of an unkown age can be a hot commodity.

I just installed a $59 electric fence from lowes around our small garden. It's not very high but I'm sure nothing will try to crawl over the edge of the raised box so I should be covered when it comes to the rabbits, coons, oppossum and armadillo... hoping the top wire will do something to deter deer. In the meantime, I ordered a solar powered, motion activated, ultrasonic noise unit which may or may not help. We shall see. animaloff.com

If you order this unit, be prepared to be bombarded with attempts to sell you more stuff as well as subscribe to a monthly coupon book.

I think we will try the Irish Spring also... now... how to tell which one actually worked? LOL
