Can someone tell me what the procedure is to get a permit. I think you do have to sumit a drawing and if so how detailed does it need to be? Do they hand you the permit on site or do you have to wait? Apply by mail or call, can anyone post the number for me? Sorry may seem a little needy just point me in the right direction.

Here is the phone number info: "Attention Property Owners Alabama Power holds property rights around the lake as required by the Federal Government. So before you begin construction, make changes or additions to any structures or the shoreline, you need to call Alabama Power Company for a permit. An Alabama Power representative will meet with you. To schedule an appointment, call 1-800-LAKES-11 (525-3711) (in Birmingham, 257-1077) or visit shoreline management." There is an office on 49 ouside of Dadeville. You do have to have a drawing. It should show the exact design along with demensions or your plans for your project. You also need to have the details of any already existing structure(s) and their demensions. Also you must know your amount of Lake Frontage. The guidelines in the past have been you need at least 100 ft. of water frontage to be able to put in a dock. You will leave your completed application along with plan/design and your check with ALPCO. They will mail your approval or disapproval to you in the mail. If one of their engineers is in the office at the time of your visit, he or she may go over your plans with you. They will explain to you what they will or will not approve. Anyway, the approval will be mailed to you. You have to have the cardboard permitt prior to starting work. ALPCO does come out and check the final project prior to issuing the small placard that must be nailed to your dock or construction product. There are rules published. You may want to search the forum for these before developing your plan. They have been shared on the Forum in the past. ALPCO has gotten more strict over the last five or so years.

Since Alabama Power abdicated ownership of the lake to the state rather than clean it up, you may need to call the Governor's office. Anyone seen any cleaning up yet?

Just call the Shoreline Permitting office in Dadeville. 256 825-0053. They'll tell you what you need to do and they're great to work with!
