I got a note from a friend that said; "Raising the Debt limit to solve the Budget Crisis, is like raising the Blood Alcohol Limit to solve the Drunk-Driving problem!" Best analogy I've ever heard! Washington has been DUI for a long time. Gonna give 'em MORE Booze?

I agree.  Best way to describe it.   I am not a Tea Party member but cannot believe the criticism from the left because Tea Party folks want the federal government to have a balanced budget, and spend no more than they bring in.  It is like that is a foreign idea, and I guess in Washington that it is.

A Senator from Virginia was interviewed by Greta last night. He is a democrat who, as governor of Virginia, led the crusade for a balanced budget and got an amendment passed in that state.  Greta says surely you will now support the Republican call for a balanced budget.  It was amazing, how he rambled around and around but ultimately could not bring himself to say that the feds should spend no more than they bring in.

Are we doomed?

Not sure if we are doomed, but I keep seeing this guy wearing a dark cloak and carrying a sickle....

No, that is a Biden and a Geithner that he is carrying

Passing a balance budget amemdment for a state is a lot easier than doing it for the Federal government. The most notable difference for politicians is that states can't print their own money... but the Feds can.

No need to actually print more money. An IOU has worked very well for sucking Social Security dry.

What is amazing to me is the republicans have developed and passed 3 specific plans and the dems in the senate have passed zero ... yet they keep saying they will not vote on or will vote down the republicans plans ... Obama says he will veto.

So who is the party of no?  Who does not want to solve this?   The dems and Obama would rather than default if they can not have it their way ... but they can not even agree among themselves and pass a plan.   It is amazing to me.

Yet Obama will go on TV and try to blame others for HIS failure.

As I said a while ago ... I do not think Obama wanted the ceiling passed ... he wanted the crisis ... but he just wanted to set it up to try and blame the republicans in hopes it scores him political points.  He does not care about the country and people ... only himself and his political agenda.

Not sure what the purpose of this vote is. I for one would love to see a different group running this country and would like to see Obama tried for treason based on what he has done to our economy. This vote however seems to be totally useless. They are having to vote to raise the debt ceiling so that they will be able to spend money that was approved in the budget. This whole mess is just an indicator of how insane our government has become. We know there is a debt ceiling, yet congress approves a budget that mandates that the ceiling be raised. Shouldn't that have happened BEFORE the budget was approved? Kind of like saying you are going to buy a new car in January and payments will start in January, however you won't find out if the loan is approved until August. Why don't we just fire them all and start over?

There hasn't been a budget in over 2 years

Thank you ... the dems and Obama have choosen not to do what is required ... submit a budget, debate it and have one approved.  they are above everything ... just like healthcare when 74% did not want it and they used games to force down our throat when they did not have the votes to pass it.  Disgraceful.

Now they want to say it is republicans fault if we do not raise the ceiling ... when the GOP has passed 3 bills in the house to raise it, but the senate will not even consider them, vote on them or debate them, as the process should work.   All the dems can do is say no, when the senate and obama has not submitted one bill to say how they will deal with the probalem.

There has been talk and a lot of smoke and mirrors, but nothing.

The last budget submitted and approved by congress was under Bush. Obama does not feel he needs a budget ... he just wants to have blank checks and spend, spend, spend .... if he submits a budget he would actually have to put a plan together ... he only knows how to do things in impluse and what he thinks iplays right politically on a given day.

Sure wish some of our forum progressive/liberal friends were around to 'splain this secret plan that BHO has to deal with this spending and debt problem. Are they all on vacation at the same time...........maybe at the same location..............could  they be getting their talking points or spin info on how to argue that Reid really has submitted a plan and we just don't know about it?

Time for another alias so you can post as a progressive/liberal and appear intelligent.

Mav, I don't put a whole lot of stock in the ratings. There are 2 members, frequent off topic participants, (you know who you are) capable of generating serious heartburn and every time I lose sleep as a result, I invent another alias and poke them. I've never given myself an "attaboy" as that would be dishonest.

An alias is cheap and easy. I haven't quite figured out how to shed the 60 or so points on the IQ to appear as a prog/lib. How did you do it?
