Do the Tea Party freshmen representatives have to compromise? They have such conviction, they are carrying the banner for the smaller government, less spending constituency that elected them. They said they would not vote to raise the debt limit and they did not until "balanced budget" was thrown in. Boehner is being portrayed as cannot keep his house in order, weak. They have taken earmarks off the table (thank goodness).
These members have changed the discussion. Some pundits say they should realize what they have won and be happy.
What should they do?

I am proud of them ... they changed the discussion and it aapears got huge cuts in spending. Not raising the debt ceiling is not realistic and should take this as step one ... claim victory and hope for more seats in the house and senate next November ... and hopefully the whitehouse since Obama failed to lead and his agenda created the "majority" of this issue ... then repeal Obamacare and get the balanced budget amendment so should america make another mistake, the rest of us are protected from another disaster.

This "compromise" stinks to the heavens. Again, the "cuts" are in anticipated defense expenditures over the next 10 years related to Iraq and Afghanistan. This government continues to operate without a budget. How in he!! are they cutting anything? In the event of a failure to approve the built in 2trillion dollar increase, automatic cuts are implemented in defense and Medicare. The Medicare cuts are in reduced payments to providors. In other words, if the retirees are having a tough time finding care now, wait until next year. These jackasses will spend through the first stage, then put the balance out for Congressional approval. Who would dare stand on record in opposition to the "necessary" increase knowing that the result will be dying seniors. Raise the debt ceiling. Submit a budget. Negotiate the details. Pass it, operate within it, stand on your record. If I were a member of the Tea Party caucus, I would not entertain any compromise without a 2012 budget passed and signed. If I were a RESPONSIBLE member of either chamber, regardless of caucus, I would insist on a 2012 budget in place before any consideration of a debt limit increase. This is really putting the cart before the horse and it really pisses me off. I plan to be in Charleston for the Red State gathering next week. Will probably be able to post pics of GF and the rest of the lib/prog/statist feminazis protesting outside the convention center.

Where did you see that detail? I saw that $1 trillion was defined cuts over 10 years and the other $1.5 trillion would be decided on by a committee, but if they fail to agree, then it would be an even across the board cuts.
It is by no means perfect and I would have rather had the Ryan plan, but it is a step in the right direction, especially because there are no tax increases. Not raising has a worse impact on everyone and puts us in worse shape ... hard to believe things could be worse than obama failed policies, but it would be bad.
Stock futures are up almost 200 points on the announcement of a plan .. which helps everyone.
Next steps is get Obama out of office and put policies in place that will get government off the backs of the private sector and small businesses so they can create jobs.

The Hill.com has 2012/2013 baseline spending increasing $31 billion as a result of the deal, and with REalClearPolitics has the 2/3 majority to override the second stage increase, they along with BigGov and Red State have the " commission" structure, and all except The Hill mention the defense/Medicare cuts in event stage 2 fails to pass. Big and Red now have articles on the sites regarding the possibility of the courts mandating tax increases. All were posted earlier this evening.

Granted $2.5T over 10 years is a (small) step in right direction, but only a big spending traditional party-line republican would try to sell this deal as a fix to our financial problem. God willing the Tea Party movement will clean house in 2012 taking control and will make the difficult changes necessary to protect our country from financial ruin.

The fact is we only control the House. Left wing Dems still control the Senate and White House. We also need to recognize that even in the House we have a ton of GOP members that were in Congress during the profligate years of spending under W so they are not fiscal conservatives at their core.
The question is do we cut off our noses to spite our faces. I think what we are going to hear is this was the best deal we could get given the current makeup of our government. Dems are hoping that this compromise will dismay the Tea Party or they will sit out 2012 because they didn't get everything they wanted. This should motivate them to be even more energetic in 2012 so we can get rid of the Messiah and demote Dems to minority status in the Senate.
The bigger question is what will happen to the bill during reconciliation. That's when whatever good news is in there could evaporate under the guise of people not any longer paying attention. To sum up my feelings, it is a small step in the right direction, is woefully inadequate but is probably the best we can get given the current makeup of Congress and the WH.

Ditto on what MM says...........the message to my Ga congressman was to" not let the push for perfection be the enemy of the good, if you guys hold out for the whole enchilada in one master stroke and the economy/ jobs/ stock market/ savings/ 401k's get even worse than they already are, we will hold them (R'S) accountable for a generation." Eat the elephant one leg at a time.

It makes me sick to say it but it is a sad reality. I also recognize opposing views on this and I can't say that I completely disagree with them. This is not a good deal in the least and is fundamentally flawed in so many ways. But it seems to be what we can get right now and is better than what we would have gotten had it not been for the steadfastness of the freshman congressmen that were elected to do just this and hopefully much more.

I think the Tea Party comes out of this stronger ... they got the country talking about government debt and that is a great thing. They will rally the troops and gain more support to replace more dems so we can take our country back to have more rationale thinking that will get the country moving.
It is amazing listening to Obama economic advisor talk about why the economy is not moving, but still stand behind their failed policies. And ecah time Bush's name comes up ... I hope the american public is as sick as I am continuing to hear these excuses.

What has been disheartening to me has been the msm feeding this narrative frenzy about how disfunctional our congress has been with this. Unfortunately lots of our our uninformed fellow Americans don't understand that this IS representative demorcracy at work............if you want an efficiently run gov't elect only ONE party to run the process ..........and of course you will get abominations like the Obamacare law. When you combine the uninformed with the Gonefishings of the world it will be a real challenge to elect enough people to keep our economy/freedoms intact. I'm not without hope.................but we've got an uphill fight.

If it is Lewis you are probably right (left).
But it passed by a huge margin with bipartisan support ... it was an even bigger margin until several dems changed their vote once they saw it passed.
That is what i love, a congressman with conviction and not political sound bites.
It is what I love about the Tea Party ... they stand firm in what they believe ... and they are controlling the agenda. I see their support increasing due to simple honesty and credibility.

Maybe they shouldn't make the totals of ayes and nays available to them until after voting is over.
