I know this will probably be laughed at, but do people not realize that their wake is so destructive? I have never seen as much activity around chucks marina slough as there was this weekend. I have never seen the water so turbulent. It looks like if people wanted to ski with those boats that churn up the water, they would go out to the big water. Our pontoon boat took a beating at our dock that I have never seen it take before. The waves just seemed to appear out of nowhere. Please (and I know I am preaching to the choir), be considerate of other's Property. We had just untied our boat to leave the dock and a rogue wave rocked it so violently that it almost tore down the sides of the slip. Not to mention that it was thrashing around so high that the 7 children who were unaware of what was about to happen were thrown around the boat deck like toys. It was a frightening experience for all. In 6 years I have never seen anything like it. Besides installing a lift, what else can be done?

It will never change and I would suggest you stay off the water the weekend of Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day.

a ton of replies but none will be better than that one.  It ain't going away.  No one will heed to warning.  That is such as life on the beautiful lake martin.  Memorial, 4th, and Labor......won't ever change.

That's a fact of life when you live on bigger water. We used to rent a house right across from Chuck's before we bought ours. I loved the view but when we bought we looked for a quiet slough. Yeah the water mostly goes away in the winter but my boat is winterized anyway so no big deal. But in the summer we have the occasional jet ski zoom in and out and a cruising boat but no big waves. If I lived on big water I would definitely have a boat lift.

I had a peaceful weekend on Perdido Bay.  I hope to find alternate venues for the 4th and Labor Day.  I see a lot of houses that are vacant the other 49 weekends, but show up those 3 with 55 family members, most of them wanting to learn to ski.  I'm counting the days 'til Fall.

That is the truth.  I commented to my 53 guests this weekend (well not that many) that I pity to poor soul who has to learn to ski on holiday weekends.  If they could come back and try on a smooth water Wednesday learning would be much simpler.  But you gotta do what you gotta do.

is the official opening day of the Lake Martin Boating Season, the volume of boat traffic and chop this weekend was proof positive. loads of boats and scooters all day long. Most seemed to be driving reasonably. Good to see folks enjoying themselves. We certainly did at my place. LNG and Hodja screamed up on their scooters at the same time,,, following my smoke signals and the aroma of sizzling bacon on the barbie. 30 minutes later I would have shared.

...not to mention what the wakes do to the rip-rap seawalls and the property that has nothing.  Boats on plane do not do as much damage as those "plowing".  If they stayed out in the middle and did not try to get as close to our docks, that would help.

What, do you mean that the big boat ban hasn't calmed the waters? What a joke! lol Last weekend reminded me why we bought the bigger boat to begin with.

I agree with the others in that there is really nothing that can be done other than ban boats from the water. When everyone wants to have fun, it's part of lake life. There are always a few idiots, but even if everyone was respectful, physics will do it's thing and the water action and forces are multiplied. Best thing to do is plan ahead for the holidays and make the lake your own on the off days.

The big boat ban was never about limiting wake or traffic on the lake - it was ALWAYS about trying to sell more lake property... Yes, I know you knew that too. :-)
