Not me.  I think it is a requirement that you have a pocket protector and taped up glasses to use one of those and I don't have them.

Hi Sandy; Yes, there are amateur radio operators active in the Lake Martin area. LM Amateur Radio Club will meet next on 14 June at about 5:15 PM at Big B's BBQ in Alex City. More info can be found at: http://www.arrl.org/new-to-ham-radio

There are a number of us.  It works when nothing else does.  I was on for the snows last year and the tornado when it came through.  I had to pass a message for the National Weather Service (P-tree City) to their Birminham office when they couldn't make contact any other way.
Last summer, the LM club activated an island.  Feild Day is June 23 when hams all over the US operate in temporary locations.  3 license steps and it's not hard nor expensive to get started.

Fellow Hammers,

Interested in putting in a HF/2m shack.  Sandy creek area.
Have an old 80's tranceiver with antenna tuner, slinky antenna, 12v 2m rig.
Electronics savvy, but could use some advice.  Down in a hole but
a buddy has the highest hill around close by.

Sounds as if you already own the right track with the basic combination of hardware parts. It would be good if you could make the LMARC meeting next Thursday. Barring that, how do you want the Club to get in touch with you? What is your callsign?

The Lake Martin club meets on the second Thursday (Aug 9) for an "eating meeting."  This month, we are meeting at
16 Broad St,

We are trying out places since the demise of Cecil's.  We gather at 5:30 and are usually out by 7 p.m.  There are usually 10 to 15 at meetings.  Good group and they welcome new folks.
