Anyone have any idea the best way to remove streaks on the sides/panels (not on the pontoons) of pontoon boats? This seems to be coming from water draining out of the snaps that attach the covers to the railings. Aparently they "rust(?)" and cause a rather dark blackish vertical streak down the aluminum panel sides. All cleaners I have tried (not that many) have no effect on these whatsoever and rubbing with a rag and something like 409 does not touch them at all. I can't tell for sure if it is the stud, cap or attaching screw that is causing the metal staining. But it is definitely coming from the attachment of the canvas to the railing.

You asked about where to get a cover last year. Call whoever installed it and tell them you want the streaks removed under the warranty. You don't want to go through this every year. It sort of defeats the purpose of having a quality top.
Tell them to replace the snaps with a quality snap.

Thanks, and that I did write last winter. However I never did find anyone to put a full cover on (manufacturer quit making one according to Kowaliga Marine where it was purchased), although I did not look that hard. The covers causing the problem are the original ones the pontoon boat came with (Geodfrey) and any warranty is long gone on this. So, I need to cure the problem at hand. I do intend this year to get a full cover to eliminate this, as the seat covers are about worn out. By the way, these are the individual covers for all the upholstery, and not one big cover.

The problem is caused by electrolysis of two dissimilar metals touching each other. The rails are aluminum and the the fasteners most likely are stainless. What you see is the corrosion of the two running down the side. I have not found anything that will clean it without also eating the paint. I often wonder why the manufacturers don't put a plastic washer between the two to prevent it.

Out ta all my years in the businesses, and all the people I know, up until this year getting those nasty black streaks gone was impossible! We have finally figured out the secret and can literally make your pontoon look like new!! Unfortunately this service comes with a price!!

Its so simple!! That reminds me of the paint renew wax crap, you know the one where they "pull" the car outta the junk yard and wipe off 30 years of fading!

Comparable to that magic spray on sealer that the guy puts on a screen on the bottom of a boat....or those 5 minute headlight refinishine kits.....or the "in an instant" vegetable slicers.....or anything made by Ronco as far as that goes.....LOL Only exception in the recent past is Lifer's procurement of one of those shrinking hoses. Heck I don't need to BUY a shrinking hose.
Could be that the black stain remover is a liquid version of a Ronco product and not what it seems, but I am still interested in some unbiased feedback. Maybe it works.

Just ordered a bottle of that too! Will test both of them (with the previous product I ordered) and give an unbiased evaluation in a couple of weeks when I get back to the boat. So stay tuned!
P.S.
I do have one of the Vidallia Onion choppers "As Seen On TV" and purchased two more, as they work so well, so who knows!!!
