Subject:   Foggy Double-Pane Windows??

I don't visit here often any longer, but I offer some info for the uninformed, like me. Might help somebody, someday.

Insulated windows develop leaks over time and get foggy, or actually show water drips between the glass panes. Ugly.  I thought the only solution was to replace the window completely. Got a quote.. had a stroke.. and the window guy told me that the glass could be replaced with the window intact. What???

The application is in Bham on a 38 year old house. Heavy gauge aluminum double pane windows. Most fogged. This company came in with a quote about 30 per cent of a total window replacement. Measured all window glass. Went away. Came back the next day with a quote and to measure a second time just to be sure.

They started today, and the result is amazing, as is the process. House is freezing cold, but the glass looks very good.

Just thought I'd share that with you...

Few years ago we found some BB holes in upper and lower panels of 3x5 double pane window. Cost was $150 per panel ($300). Included measuring trip and install. Took about 20 minutes for entire job. I was wondering how they replace just the outter panel with the hole and get gas between the panels. Well, the panel comes as a double pane with gas between them. After they finish, you can't tell it was replaced. Call some local glass companies.

Cahaba Glass in Bham. Custom Glass in Alex City, same company. They replaced 28 windows of various sizes over a 3 day period.About a third of them from an extension ladder.

Average cost was $240 per window. Very pleased with results.
