If the 97% of all scientists and over 99% of climatologists are correct about what is happening to the global climate (that's "climate", not "weather"...they are different"), and if we completely ignore climate change, it will be, in the final analysis, lot bigger problem for the entire world than a bunch of Muslim radicals ever could hope to be.

Lets be hopeful on this Thanksgiving day that the reasonable leaders of the planet are willing to find a solution to both problems.

Of course I assume you do not want your great-grandkids to celebrate Thanksgiving 2065 in the desert on the parched shore of what great-grandpa and great-grandma knew Lake Martin.  Of course I may be wrong and you may be right about 2065 and climate change...but are you really willing to look your kids, grandkids and future great- grandkids in the eye and tell them its worth the gamble? While sitting around the Thanksgiving table this very day will you look each of them in the eye and tell them definitively that you are willing to bet their future for the sake of taking the "right" side of a political talking point?

well as they say; theres a time & place for everything; if we dont solve the terror problem, why worry about 2065 ?? its called priority my friend

Indeed priorities are important!  If you think the climate forces that could disrupt every single life on earth, including the potential of mass starvation and make vast areas of the planet uninhabitable, is a higher priority than the obscene scurge called ISIS, which at its worse can only commit cowardly terror acts of random murder and spread unreasoned fear, then I have something else to be thankful...that you are not wielding the levers of power.  Perhaps you need to re-think your own priorities...you might start by answering my question my friend.

Algore: We Have Ten Years Left Before Earth Cooks

January 27, 2006

BEGiN TRANSCRiPT

RUSH: Try this one from yesterday's stack. i don't know if you people know this or not, but Al Gore has been out at the Sundance Film Festival out there in Park City, Utah. This is one of Robert Redford's big do's, and apparently Al Gore is working on a movie that -- what is the name of this movie? Oh, that's right, "An inconvenient Truth," and the movie will document his efforts to raise alarm on the effects of global warming, and so he brought Tipper and the kids out there.

<img id="eZObject_72028" class="img_right" src="http://www.rushimg.com/cimages//media/multimedia2/gorescam/1108006-1-eng-GB/goreScam.jpg" alt="" />

He's attending parties and posing for pictures with his fans. He's enjoying macaroni and cheese at the Discovery Channel's soir?e. He's palling around with Laurie David of Curb Your Enthusiasm, who is the husband of Larry David, who drives the Prius and then flies the GV. Larry David says, "You know, Al is a funny guy, but he's also a very serious guy who believes humans may have only 10 years left to save the planet from turning into a total frying pan."

Now, the last time i heard some liberal talk about "ten years" it was 1988, Ted Danson. We had ten years to save the oceans; we were all going to pay the consequences, which would result in our death. Now Al Gore says we've got ten years. Ten years left to save the planet from a scorching. Okay, we're going to start counting. This is January 27th, 2006. We will begin the count, ladies and gentlemen. This is just... You have to love these people -- from afar, and from a purely observational point of view.

Well, we only have one year left!!  Joke all you want too, but just because well or ill meaning people say stupid things doesn't make the seriousness of the problem any less.  Just because a problem has been hijacked by the politicians from the scientists doesn't mean political opinion trumps (no pun intended) scientific fact.  Some day...it may be a lot longer than 10 years...but some day we will pay if we continue to let politicians, rather than scientists, decide what is or is not scientific fact.  Politics is based on opinion, science is based on verifiable evidence.

This week he met with the President of France and almost nothing came out of that meeting.

My problem with global warming is this:  Unless every country on Earth gets on board with it, anything the U.S. does alone is not going to mean anything.  Even if every country in Europe got on board with Obama, but China, Russia and other nations like them don't, then it's not going to make a difference.

As far as I'm concerned, Obama has abandoned the national security of our country, to pander to a few base issues that at the end of the day, doesn't support the concerns of the majority of Americans.

In the final analysis the "concerns" of the majority of Americans is not the question (especially when those "concerns" have been artificially ginned up by partisan political actions) if the planet becomes unable to provide for its population.

You are right that it can't be done by the US alone.  It must be an international cooperative effort.  The current GOP and big oil is bound and determined to make the USA a non-participant as opposed to a leader and they are not above lying to do it.

The bottom line...warming fact, it may not be a major problem in most of our lifetimes, but it WILL eventually be a problem for everyone unless, at the optimum it is stopped or reversed and at minimum prepared and planned for.  There is always the possibility it will correct itself but the world's people and their leaders would be very foolish to bet the future of billions on that happening.

This is real!!

You know I think thru the various Ages that I kinda sorta remember from schooling, and each Age took some toll and made significant changes to God's planet.  Then I look at mountains and deeep seas, and consider volcanoes and how they significantly change the landscape (wreaking what we would call havoc in its path).  I know certain gases are released from them and from earth quakes.  I know the world beneath us is like an upset stomach (oh should not mention that on T-day, should I).

We are insignificant ants in this planet of Ages!

Also, I laughed when I heard Oblamer call the climate change party a "powerful rebuke" to ISIS.  The man has no clue.

I don't think all this so called climate warming is fact because Al Gore or architect and some want you to beleive so. Some of these so called scientist get paid alot of money trying to convince the rest of us the end of the world is coming. Al Gore filies around the world causing more CO2 in one flight than I do in a lifetime. That dosen't seem to slow him down as long as he get paid for speaking at these global warming events. I do agree with Talullahhound that it needs to be everyone to start doing thier part not just the United States and a handful of other small contries. It really gets me when you have a group protest a coal fired power plant and say 20 people show up to picket and they come in 15 to 20 automobiles. What hipocrates! I must say I really don't give a rats behind what any of the globalony crowd think. Al Gore said the debate was over so let it be OVER!

that most of this crowd has drunk the cool-aide and let the politicians and special interests tell us what is scientific fact rather than the scientists.  The planet doesn't care...earth will likely continue to spin around the sun for billions of years with or without the oceans, forests and fields.  In the short term it may even appear that you have made a reasonable choice accepting opinion over fact, but in the long term your children will curse you.

I frankly don't know if there is global warming or not. My problem is this - I think there are more pressing problems that.  I have trouble worrying about future generations when there are so many problems now.

You are correct, but warming is ONE of the problems we have now.  If you think what is happening to the climate worldwide is not one of the issues that HAS to be among those recognized and addressed, then you are taking a dangerous crapshoot on the future way beyond ISIS and the national debt and Healthcare costs.  Surely we can chew gum and walk at the same time?  Just because an insidious danger is not killing people as we speak does not mean it does not exist.  If a scientist instead of a partisan politician confirms, using verifiable evidence, a danger it does not make it any less a danger.

You are dead on.  i just think he isn't interested in national security and sees foreign affairs as an unnecessary distraction from his real goal, the transformation of America into whatever he thinks it should be. Most likely a European style democratic socialist state. Climate change is a way for him to promote that agenda because all of the prescriptions always include big government, wealth transfers from developed to undeveloped countries, etc.  Regadless of what we and the Europeans do to reduce carbon usage, China, india, Russia, the entire Middle East, etc. are not going to destroy their economies based on a scam.  This isn't about climate change, it's about more and bigger government and this is just an excuse to get there.

Yep, in the cosmic scheme of things we are all ants but that doesn't mean l want to be stepped on if l don't have to.  I assume you are not a climatologist and if so I am astounded and disturbed that your confidence level is so high that you trust your own experience and impirical knowledge above that of those who are climatologists who have evidentiary proof for what is happening. I am astounded and disturbed that you are willing, along with most of the rightwingers, to offer all us ants up for sacrfice whether we like it or not.

The issue is that others with better observation and impirical (msp) evidence disagree with your beliefs.....yes I said beliefs for it is there that our "grasp" of knowledge starts, and often difficult to move from, as you and Al Gore and the "climatapologists" are as difficult to move.  The facts are not all in.

And, just a thought, take care of the ISIS issue and the refugee problem will be more manageable.

And another thing, wow you are so wrong on so many fronts, the petty ants did not have a choice against the Glaciers, or the quakes, or the volcanic eruptions, and I guess you think I am causing hurricanes and tornados as well.  There is your climate change.  It is natural, and to quote Seinfeld (they are real, they are big, and they are spectacular)

I sure would like to find some fundamental point of agreement on this, surely there is something both side can agree on.  My suggestion would be that we look at what the expense of climate change will be.   Whether & how much mankind is contributing to changes in the environment, we might all agree that any changes are going to be expensive to cope with.

More intense storms, denser coastal populations, rising tides, long lasting changes in water availability in expanding regions of Northern Africa and the Middle East... plus those same burdens on life in the US when water resources aren't being replenished by droughts.

My take on it is that we had better prepare and do anything we can to avoid those additional costs because our kids will be bearing them for us.  But that's just me.

So can Conservatives and Progressives agree that if we do experience significant climate changes... even if they occur over a really long time... that's something we should try to avoid if we can?    Coping with environmental changes will be the ultimate drag on our economy......

when water resources aren't being replenished by droughts.

How can water resources be replenished by droughts?

For my money I wish we would spend the dollars on ways to collect, store and preserve water.  The Keystone pipeline needs to have water in it and headed out west.  Climate change is going to happen.  Enviroments are going to change.  Has been that way for a loooong, long time.  We will not stop storms, they are not more intense now.  Water is life and we should take measures to make it more available to those without.  We are so fortunate in our area with water resources, and water replenishment.

I would like to know what you (archy) have done , are doing and will do to save us from this globalony. If I really thought this was more than a bunch of crap I would be first in line to do more than my part but I don't beleive it. I never have been one to trash this planet by any means of the imagination but I think Obama and Al Gore and their bunch are full of it. Now go ahead and make your comments that everyone who don't agree with you nuts or what ever and have a fit like you always do and get over it. You post more than anyone on this forum when they don't agree with you and/or bull. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving.

You obviously got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.  Yeah, I will continue to occasionally post responses to stupid or dangerous attitudes and you can continue to flag them.

I have not done enough to respond to the problem but I make modest efforts...I drive slower and less, I use public transit when possible, I have replaced all the toilets in my home with low flow, I use pig-tail light bulbs (without blaming the "liberal" politicians for it) and use a single lamp when possible, l ALWAYS turn out the lights when I leave a room, I have recaulked all my windows and doors, I have taken all the grass from my yard and replaced with drought tolerant ground cover, I wear sweaters in the winter and keep the thermostat at 65 deg instead of 68, I no longer wear a tie to the office in the summer (tiny gesture but most enjoyable), I recycle much more than prevously, I purchase only high efficient appliances and heating/cooling equipment, I encourage all my clients to be more aware and energy efficient in their projects, including following the LEED recommendations where practical (something actually outlawed by the idiots in the GA legislature for state buildings), and I have not been noticeably inconvenienced by any of it.  I am prepared to do more in the future.

PS:  It is fine if you do not believe it...now.  If you are still around in 30 years and it turns out I was right and you were wrong do you agree to give an apology to the world and promise to do what you can to stop it if it is still possible?  It is highly unlikely I will be around in 30 years, but if I am, and turns out it was balony, l will gladly offer my apology.

I'm fairly sure I won't be able to do the same with my age and health issues but my Grandchildren and Great Grandclildren will appreciate your effort and mine as far as that goes. I do teach them not to pollute this country. I think they go way overboard by putting many people out of work by giving the EPA pretty much free rein to do what ever they want and not give the industrial work horse of this country time to catchup or even get ahead of all the regulations thrown on them. I know for example that Georga Power has bent over backwards to stay ahead of the curb but this takes time. Obama said that you could have a coal fired power plant but you couldn't afford to run it and he's just about done what he said he would do, mean while our competition are laughing at us because their not going to do what Obama wants the US to do. I see so many people out of work in the coal industry and China is building a new coal fired plant about every couple weeks. It puts Coal Miners, Train Operators, Power Employees and many more out the door and thats just the coal industry not to mention all the other companys he has hurt. Sorry I just don't buy it.
