Anyone hear about an accident at chimney rock this week? Heard a guy hit the cliffs?

I believe the accident took place this past Thursday around 7:30 PM. The person in the boat was injured and his boat was sinking. He was able to call "911" for help. The Water Rescue group went to the scene and had him transported to the hospital. That's all I know.

Acapulco Rock, the rock with all of the graffiti, is owned by Alabama Power Company. Chimney Rock is owned by Russell Lands.

Hey Jr! From what I have gathered it was a guy from Montgomery. The boat is apparently unrepairable. Haven't heard if the guy is ok or what though.

Wednesday night, about 9 PM, the guy was travelling North along the shoreline accross from the Rock. He said he thought he saw something in the water ahead of him and swerved to the right - directly into the shoreline. He lay there for quite a while hollering for help before being heard by the neighbor on the ridge to the South, who called for help. Russell security beat the MP there and took the guy to the Ridge marina where they met the ambulance.

Boat is totalled, but the driver only received a strained back and some bumps and bruises. Very lucky guy, considering the speed he must have been travelling to smash the boat so hard into the hillside and up the hill about 20 ft - before sliding back down into the water.

Just saw your post from a few days ago. We are the ones who heard the guy's distress call (we were on our dock fishing) and my husband boated over to check it out. It was a white male about 45-50 who had obviously been drinking. Apparently drove straight into the cliffs and the boat went a good ways up (hull debris about 12 feet up the cliff) and then came back down into the water. He was apparently thrown out but climbed back in his boat. He was soaking wet and slumped over not moving when my husband arrived. We called 911. My husband stayed with him until help arrived. We checked on him and he was released later that night from the hospital so a very lucky guy. Nice boat. It would have completely sunk but my husband and one of the firefighter guys towed it to our place and we secured it on a ramp. Somebody came and got it the next day.

I believe it was Red Hill fire department who responded first, then the MP's. This was about 40 minutes after my husband responded after we heard the guy yelling. We remember his boat going by at a pretty good clip and it was maybe 20 minutes or so later when we heard yelling and my husband went to his aid. He was lucky, made out a lot better than his boat.
