Hello everyone,
I and my sidekick, Starr, are two more "outsiders" from Peachtree City having bought an existing place in Lake Martin RV Resort (that way we don't add to the burden of habitat distruction). You have a beautiful lake here and we look forward to getting on the water next season after spending some of this winter sprucing up the place which suffers from some benign neglect. My question is are there any boating rules peculiar to Lake Martin that I should be aware of? Looking forward to meeting some of you this year,
Chuck

Welcome to Lake Martin and the Forum. You will find the lake to be a great place for you and the family. As to boating rules, our resident expert has posted some rules in the past and I have copied them below. I am sure CAT BOAT will help to explain the various rules that he and his loud mouth opps I meant loud boat crowd have promulgated. The Power Boat Association is mostly beer guzzling happy go lucky people with no real purpose other than to have fun and annoy all of the more family oriented individuals who frequent the lake. I think CAT BOAT maybe their Honorary President for Life. So as the CAT BOAT man says "Bling It On"

Lake Martin is navigable on some days, but not all. On weekdays, other than holidays that fall during the week, Lake Martin is very navigable. There is not much boating traffic during those times, and the lake can be navigated at excessive high speeds effectively. However, during weekend daylight hours during the summer, Lake Martin is unnavigable . Most boats wonder around aimlessly going in every direction possible and as slow as possible (thats why the federal government deams Lake Martin not navigable). This situation lends itself to the operation of pontoon boats only. Guidelines suggest the operation of Personal Water Craft on Lake Martin be done at nighttime between the hours of 10:00pm and 3:00am. But, effective May 31st, 2006, the new Federal Guidelines suggest that during daylight hours in the summer months, Lake Martin will be navigable, thanks to a resolution signed by the LMPBA (lake martin power boat association) that limits boat traffic to unmuffled powerboats during those times and no speedlimit has been set forth at this time. I am sure you all will agree with these new rules, and i hope yall enjoy them as I will.

There are some rules that MUST be followed on the lake. Pontoon boats and bass boats can only be operated during daylight hours Monday Thru noon on Fridays, and any weekday monday thru sunday 12mid, until 8am. ALL other dayparts are reseverved for powerboats. These rules are enforced and all will be prosicuted to the max. If you break these rules, you will be imprisoned for a long long time. For a small fee, you might want to join the LMPBA. (Lake Martin Powerboat Assoc.). We will keep you in compliance with the lake rules and regs. If you don't own a powerboat, it is best that you stay close to shore, and out of the main channel of the lake. You can find these laws recorded in sec.8, paragraph6 on page 9 of the LMPBA dialogs.

Point of clarification. These rules do not apply to Lake Martin Property Owners (LMPOs). That fact is clearly stated in the Preamble to the Rule Book. It only applies to our (LMPOs') honored guest and visitors to the Lake. They are so important to us as wonderful host we want their visit(s) to be full of good safe fun.

Besides without these great guest and visitors, we would have no reason to have annual "Clean up the Lake Martin Days". Their generous donations of beverage containers, snack packaging, and other etc. trash ensures the survival of this annual social event.

Welcome to the Lake Martin Community cfulton. As you can see, gonefishin has listed some of the rules that must you must obey while operating a vessel on the lake. He has covered most of them for you. If you should have any questions please feel free to ask them. He is really trying to keep you out of trouble here. He is wise, along with a handful of others here on the board.

There are some important information that you did not provide to others on the forum..... 1. What kind of boat do you plan to operate on the lake.
2. Is it powered by an outboard, or I/O. 3. What vessel operation credintials do you have. 4. Do you plan to live at the lake full time, or visit on weekends and holidays. 5. (very important) What is your opinion of loud/gofast boats?<<<<<<Very Important!!!!!

I am sure that all will be expecting your reply soon.

Welcome to the lake!

Boating restrictions are:

No boats over 12 ft in length
Speed limit of 25 MPH
Electric motors only

All the rest have been grandfathered in......

I have nothing to add to the boating rules. I am still laughing! Our only rule concerns fishing. If they are too small, or if they glow, we throw them back. From one Newbie to another, welcome to Lake Martin!

There's nothing peculiar about boating on Lake Martin except some of the answers you will get to your question. This time of year you must be watchful and careful because we are currently slightly below winterpool (480') and a lot of low rocks are sticking out of the water. Otherwise enjoy the lake and the fishing. Bass and Crappie are bitting very well right now. This is still one of the few lakes where the fish are " ok " to eat. You will never be an outsider unless you consider yourself one. Peace

Thanks for all the "interesting" answers I got to my question about boating rules. I suspect that many of you good folks are into funnin' more often than not. I look forward to that kind of friendship.
You asked me some questions in return:
1. I plan to bring my 24' Neptune sailboat from Lake Weiss when I get the dock prepared and the boat trailer tuned up.
2. It's powered by a 15HP outboard and my creds go back about 50 years from my first boat - an 8' pram with a 15HP outboard (see how I've progressed) to a 22' Chris Craft classic runabout, an airboat, a 19' Mastercraft tournament ski boat, sea kayaks and have captained a 40' shrimp boat and sailed several sailboats from Sunfish to a Morgan 46.
3. We won't be living at the lake, but will use the place as a get-away and to bring our kids and grandkids.
4. I think the next boat I bring to Lake Martin will be a Cigarette boat with two 520HP blown chevy engines. I run alcohol and oxymethanol and it should do about 85mph on a rough day and 110 on smooth water. Anybody want to go skiing?

About ?#4..... Me and you are going to get along just wonderful. Welcome to the Lake Martin Power Boat Club. You are hearby a lifetime member, and all your dues are pre-paid in advance for the next 20 years. You'll fit in just fine with the club. Now, we just have to figure out a name for the boat youll bring (bling) to the lake. As far as the sail boats, and others you described before #4, We completely understand that you must have experience and gradually increase as you go, but it looks like you are headed in the right direction for sure......If you need some help with those blower motors, let me know. LMAO
Bling it on.

Bling name to boat then bling boat to lake. Let's see... a fully blown Cigarette boat over 1,000HP that needs a name... how about "APOCALYPSE" ?

You must come up with something a little more fun than that. "BLOWN MONEY", or "GETTIN' BLOWN"..... Something like that.

You're right - "Apocalypse" isn't much fun, but it certainly expresses how I feel about boats whose gas lines are garden hose sized and jet skis as well. I don't guess "B_ _ _ J_ _" would be appropriate in mixed company. But there ARE skiers who ski at those speeds. I think the world record is around 100 mph. Can you imagine falling at that speed? You'd probably skip for half a mile before you slowed down enough to enter the water.

BLOWN AWAY ?

My husband is a private pilot. He has a boat in Destin named PLANE TO SEA.

Cute, huh?

"Plane To Sea" - Yes, it's plain to see that is clever, covers both bases at once. I am retired from EAL then UAL so I've got a bit of air time too and I was thinking of taking my sailboat down to the Destin area (probably Niceville) last winter/spring, but I kept putting it off and now with three hurricanes in that area last year I'm glad I did. I would have spent more time moving it to hurrican holes than sailing it.

He didn't have problems. I'll get him on line to discuss this detail and types of boats. His is a deep sea fishing one. That's really all I know.

Thanks for the offer to ask him about docking in Destin, but for right now the plan is to put the sailboat on Lake Martin. After that maybe I'll rethink putting it on the Gulf Coast. Actually I'd like something a little bigger for down there, but that's in the future.

I too am from Peachtree City. There seem to be quite a few with lake places from here. We have been at the lake for a little over 2 years. It's great. Matter of fact there are three from my street in PTC with lake places. All near Dadeville.

Thanks for the note. We heard about the Lake Martin RV Resort from a PTC neighbor who had a lot there and loved it, so now we are there too. Jim Price ? is going to send me the list of PTC folks who have a place on the lake. That should make it easier to get in touch with others up there. Take care,

Hi, Sorry that you are a retired wannabee and not a real retiree. Retirement is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I wouldn't get back in the pointy end of those aluminum tubes for anything. I'm having too much fun this way.

I'm ready, but I''m 2 years away from drawing an early package.....if there is anything left. I may be stuck doing another 12 given the current situation. Where are you in PTC?

I'm on the sorta south end of PTC off Loghouse Rd (just past the firehouse on the parkway).
