Subject:   How can I find our address?

We are wanting to get internet at the lake. We were given a Rural Route address and a street name address. We've also been told the address is another address. In January we had a noticed taped to the door that we now have a E911 address. We don't have a mailbox and the phone company was only able to find us by using the old phone number that was written in the phone box on the house. Charter can't find us and we don't have a land line so they can't find us either. Would the courthouse have the address or do I just need to go to the Charter office in Alex City and give them directions to the house and then figure out the address?

You could go to the courthouse and check the tax records. When you bought the house I assume there was a title search. I would determine where you live before you order cable. I imagine Charter does not want to run the line to what may or may not be a real address. It is one way to avoid the bill collector.

Call the police department and ask for the non emergency 911 phone number. They will be able to give you all you want. They deal with mapping etc.. While your at it, you can update any important health information for 911. They will know who lives in the home if they are called to an emergency and have a heads up of any medical conditions.

You can do all the other stuff, or do it like my wife does as a real estate broker and I as a builder.. Call the 911 Office, County Court House at 825-8490 and ask for Joe Gibson.. How's that for service with a smile??

If Joe can't find you, you don't exist!

Thanks! Is that the number I need for Coosa County? We are out Coosa County 20.

Joe is only good for Tallapoosa County...you'll need to call God about Coosa County.

We live off Coosa 20 and have Charter cable and internet. You will not have an E911 address until the majority of Coosa County is mapped. It may happen this year but, as noted in earlier post, only God may know.

Call Charter and explain to representative that you can give directions to your physical address from Alex City. That has always worked for me.

You can call Chris Dozier at Coosa County Courthouse and he can bring you up to date on E911 address status.

Does Coosa County have electricity yet? Can't imagine you have cell service.

This weekend I was playing with my wife's new Garmin GPS device. Of course I could drive to our place in my sleep, but this time for kicks I fed the Garmin our lake address (also off Coosa 20, it's an Alexander City address technically) and let it navigate for me. The addressing scheme on our stretch of road is hilariously improvised, arbitrary, chaotic, and semi-fictitious (the house numbers are not sequential), but the Garmin nevertheless took me right to our door. After arriving I recorded our GPS coordinates just in case, and added them to some directions we email to friends who are coming to visit.

I live off Coosa 20 too.

You see, I know all about this as we went through it just last year. I was lucky with Charter, because my pre-existing cabin had actually had cable out to it before. But, if you will go by their office, you may get lucky. Tell them that everyone around you has cable. It will help if you have the name of at least one of your neighbors or the previous owners of your house. You'll want to have your lot number. It won't be easy, it won't likely be quick, but it can be done.

With regard to the landline, if you are wanting one, will be trickier. We knew at least one other person who lived in our area that we concluded must have a landline and from there we were able to convince the phone company that there were in fact, phone lines out here. But it took many, many phonecalls and a lot of time. At one point, the phone company told us that we likely just couldn't have a phone.

My problem was further exasterbated by the "unofficial" name of our street. Our street has no official name, but everyone knows it by it's unofficial name. And then Coosa changed it.

Coosa went around and gave out little orange cards with your tentative 911 address. Of course, they have since called me and told me that they will be changing that name, because they "forgot" to run it against Tallapoosa County records and since Alex City is our mailing address, they will have to give a name not already in existence.
And since Coosa has not yet put the 911 in effect, you'll probably have little hope in using that address with any of the utilities. They do not make it easy.

Persevere.

Charter. So don't let anyone tell you that you can't get Charter internet out here.

I tried that yesterday and he couldn't help, I've talked to 3 different reps. Yesterday he finally gave me the location of the one in Alex City and told me to go to their office and talk to them because they are not set up to receive phone calls.

Yes, we've been given High Ridge Loop, water company has us Dirt Road Loop and then we also have the RR box number as well as the E911 number that was on the little orange card. I did get on the Charter site last night and put in the RR box number address and it says that service is available but it is $70 a month but the rep at charter said cable and internet are $45 month. I'll figure it out next week hopefully. There was cable there at one time because there is a cable box on the house with a cable line running to it.

Thanks for all the help! Will update the status once I know what it is.
