We just purchased new cell phones from AT&T and are disappointed to find that there is limited service around Johnson Creek and through the Narrows. We also have limited service at our cabin off CR 20. We switched from T-Mobile just two weeks ago for this very reason; however their coverage area seemed to be larger on the lake than AT&T. Bruce - maybe you can provide some insight on this.

You are right. I have no AT&T service in the Little Kowaligia Creek area either. I have to drive to use the phone.

Verizon works fine in Little Kowaliga and most every place I've been on the lake. I've had a few momentary drops in areas enclosed by hills and driving Hwy 50 by the dam, but they are minimal.

I have verizon with a very cheap phone. On water, I have not found a dead spot yet. Been all over lake. I am talking from 280 bridge down to the " little steel bridge ". Land dead spots are on Hwy 49 down in the valleys. I am very satisfied with verizon.

Hey neighbor, I wish you had talked to me before going with AT&T because I could have advised that it did not work well at our Coosa County location. I've not had good results on the Parker Creek side either. If you drive to the top of our hill, it's still not that good and you may get a bar. I've had two phones that were equally disfunctional with no signal.

I've been with AT&T for 4 or 5 years and I recall having better service with Verizon at the lake before I switched. I can only imagine that Verizon has improved even more since then. In Knoxville AT&T works great. In Sylacauga, it's spotty.

I can't wait for my contract to run out with AT&T next February so I have to live with it until then. There are rumors that the iPhone may become available through Verizon, but those contract negotiations are still on-going and undetermined. If I could get an iPhone on Verizon, then that would make my day.

There's sometimes a 30 day guarantee on new phone contracts. You might be able to cancel it.

Another satisfied Verizon customer here too.

and we have Alltel, about to change to Verizon. We have wonderful service with Alltel. We had Cingular in 2001 and we were always roaming in Dadeville where our other cabin was. We switched to Alltel and haven't had a problem. I don't know if you are still within your period of cancellation but I would probably cancel them and try Alltel. Sorry you are having such a horrible time. We've even been out in the boat and had good service with Alltel as well.

Been with Alltel for a number of years. Excellent service minus a few dead spots. Hope the merger with Verizon makes both better.

If you are at the end of 20 then you need to stop by and say hello. Without displayed house numbers it's hard to describe by road, but I'm at the cabin with "JP" on the chimney. By water it's a pier with a second level and spiral staircase. Crownline is my neighbor.

Verizon is the best around the lake and if I am not mistaken they recently acquired Alltel as well.

Bruce, which side of the penisula are you on? On the Veazy side? Now, that sounds like a country song. "I'm on the Veazy side of life" Mr. V would like that.

I have Alltel and have had no problems anywhere on the lake. Verison is also good at the lake. Any other is hit and miss at the best.

I'm on the west side of the peninsula (not the Veazy's side). By road, Lakewood Road, recently renamed Ivy Shores Lane. Stop by and say hello Saturday or Monday. I'm likely to be at OT's house Sunday if the weather is good.

you turn onto Lakewood on the dirt road loop (now called Grandview Lane). We'd love to meet up sometime this summer. We have company coming Saturday and Monday. We are in Tate's Cove.

I got out of our cell phone contract before by telling them I purchased a service and if they couldn't provide that service, they weren't honoring their part of the contract. Tell them you will go above their heads to corporate if they won't budge! Cell phone companies should not get away with poor service. Tell them you will not renew your contract, that seems to shake them up.Good Luck!

Thanks for all of the feedback.

I have two more qustions if anyone can help.
The main reason we changed from TMobile was because my wife travels between Sylacauga and Montgomery and Sylacauga and Talladega frequently for her job and TMobile is terrible in those areas. Does anybody know how Verizon is in those areas. We will just have to make do at the lake as long as the provider we have works in her areas of travel!!

Thanks again!!

and no one was there that we could tell. We didn't stop and get out because our daughter was asleep on the boat so we were passing time til she woke up. You aren't far from us at all. Is Crownline the house to the left or right of you if looking from the water?

My parents live in Sylacauga and have T-mobile, no complaints. My husband has Verizon and has used it on the lake before, when my T-Mobile didn't.

Has the Lakewood Rd renaming actually and officially happened? We got a postcard many months ago and I thought it said we'd be notified before it actually happened. I forget what (if anything) it said abut renumbering -- as you know, the house numbers on Lakewood are truly bizarre.

Since we are on the subject of Lakewood, several years back most everyone on the street pitched in to have the road paved. Since the condo construction started a couple of years ago the road has been totally trashed (ruts, gulleys, mud holes, etc....). Has anyone contacted the builders to see if they plan on restoring the road to the condition it was in when they started building. If they don't plan on improving these conditions I think we should get together as a group and look into all legal options of forcing them to correct the problem.

As far as I know the E-911 acknowledgments have not been completed. They have to get 90% of of the entire county to respond. I'm sure they are having to make contacts with people they have not heard from to get enough results.

As for Lakewood the whole sitution is a cluster. If you recall, or at least Goose will, the residents had to pay for paving the road in the past, That is because the road runs across the back of people's lots (technically a private road). The county has never claimed that road and that is why we were having to pay for the paving.

As for the condition, it is in disrepair because because of all the construction in recent years. I'd put most of the blame on the building of the condos because there had to be an aweful amount of building material deliveries in big trucks coming down our road. That event about doubled our population anyway.

The problem is that the water line service and the condos were built at relatively the same timeframe, so each developer blames the other for the road wear.

So if Coosa County renames our road and puts road signs on it, you would think that would be acknowledgement that they own the road. Because how could a government have the authority to rename a private road?

Then there is the issue that our lot line goes about a dozen feet to the other side of the road (on one side) but the condo developer claims that the road is the lot line. Well, what part of the road is the lot line? If the road is on private land then you can't assume that the center of the road is the lot line. So then who is responsible for the road?

I don't know... I'm not an attorney, but I think we need one. If the county would pave the road, I'd be willing to give an easement to the county, but I'm not going to pay for the paving and let the condo developer claim land on the other side.

Since we're neighbors, perhaps we should get our lots surveyed together and save some money, if that is possible. You own some amount of land on the other side of the road too.

Sounds like a good plan.
We might even consider contacting a legislator about the road problem to see what could be done. Have some pretty good connections down in Montgomery.
