As a Lake Martin Aquapalooza 09 participant, who better can you think of to come to our lake, give a concert, generate such awesome goodwill among the crowd, and have such rave reviews? I can think of no one in the business with the popularity, connection to Lake Martin, and love of boats and country music, than Alan Jackson. I'd love to read your thoughts on this. I can't think of anyone who could have done better. It was simply a magnificent event; one that will be talked about for a long time. Glad and proud I got to be there; done that.

If you're going to limit it to country music, maybe nobody. But why exclude those of us who don't like country music? (Or what is passing for country these days; really it's mostly just fluffy pop music sung with a twang, and with a steel guitar added.)

If they make this an annual event, I hope the full musical spectrum will be celebrated, not just "country."

The boss says that we would have passed on the family reunion and would have been there even if she had to drive the boat... He likes boats and planes and boatplanes. Because he is a cross over, I think the draw would be unreal. Parrotheads unite. :-)

I agree, Jimmy Buffet would be great. Other choices would be Kenny Chesney, Hank Jr. & Kid Rock. Everyone on my boat said they would be more than willing to pay.

As long as we are making requests: Alabama reunion, Lynnard Skynnard (signing you know what), Eagles. From the counrty theme, I can only think George Strait would draw a crowd to rival Alan Jackson.

Elvis would be a better choice than almost everyone who has been listed so far. Live Elvis would be better than all of them, but I'd take looking at his skeleton over listening to most of the people that have been mentioned.

And his tie in with the lake is that he died while over the water. How about The Doors to shake things up - I have heard Jim Morrison is working at the same gas station as Elvis.

Since imagination has crept into this thread, I can only list a few of my own...but to truly draw a fair comparison, I think you have to imagine the celeb singer riding in on the exact same boat that AJ arrived on...that being said, imagine these arriving on that boat:
**Frank Sinatra
**Beatles (2 in front, 2 in back)
**Elton John
**George Jones (can you say BUI?)..i know..low blow..now reformed
**Tiny Tim
**CAT ...naaa, he wouldn't arrive on anything but the 'skater'...think that's what he calls it....
**Elvis...I mean the REAL elvis...aged and all...ding ding ding..we have a winner!!
..sorry 'bout this post..pre-football season lunacy...

Aren't you?

For those unfamiliar with Kid Rock, check the link for the titles to some of his songs. I can't reprint them; this site has safeguards to keep it family friendly.

And if those are the song titles, just imagine the lyrics. Or click the titles while you're on the site, and read them.

Bobby Ritchie is actually a pretty good guy. He had a radical time in his music, but him and Hank Jr. are the best of friends. He loves the south and the influence of southern rock shows in all his new music. People do grow up and grow and move on to new things. He was at city stages last year. He just blended in with the crowd with the exception of his $$$$ boots. Ha!

getting married to Pam Anderson in nashville... he never has really caused a stir up here... and from what I understand.. he is here quite often.
Oh.. I did forget.. he punched a strip club DJ in mouth a couple of years ago... oops... I don't seem to remember what it was all about now.
I don't think he would draw the crowd that A.J. does/did. I am not a country fan. But, I do think that Kenny Chesney or Keith Urban would draw well.
I would place my bets on Jimmy Buffet. Just lake/beach kinda music.

Crappy : )

(just outside of Nashville)

Let's do this.

You asked for "full musical spectrum." I think he falls into that category. Personally, I don't care for all of his music, but I do have a few (3) of his songs on my ipod.

Cheap Trick would be great. Fun music, party music, crowd participation music. They're great in concert, seenum twice!

I think they were scheduled to play last year just before the thunderstorm hit and blew it all away!!

Kieth was very good; We saw him in Nashville a few years before he died.....be kinda hard to get him booked for Aquapalooza though. I think Alan Jackson was the perfect choice for the event.
