Little Tennessee River

 
Length: 135 miles (217 kilometers)

Little Tennessee River, approximately 135 miles long; rising in the Blue Ridge in northeast Georgia, and flowing northwest across southwest North Carolina and through east Tennessee to the Tennessee River at Lenoir City. On the river in North Carolina near the Tennessee state line is the Fontana Dam (480 feet high, 2,365 feet long which was completed in 1945) impounding Fontana Lake. This dam is part of the TVA and is the highest dam east of the Rocky Mountains. Cheoah Dam in North Carolina, and Calderwood and Chilhowee dams in Tennessee are also part of the TVA.
