Ocmulgee River

Length: 255 miles (410 kilometers)
(ok-MUHL-gee) Located in central Georgia. Formed Southeast of Atlanta in Northwest Georgia by the confluence of the Yellow, South, and Alcovy rivers at position 33°19'N 83°50'W. Flows Southeast past Macon to join the Oconee River and form the Altamaha River near Lumber City. Major river of middle Georgia. The river passes the remains of prehistoric Native American villages, preserved in Ocmulgee National Monument in Macon near Fort Hawkins. Macon’s cotton market flourished due to its location at the head of the river’s navigation
