First of all, seasoning is an important part of grilling, smoking or any sort of cooking....If someone can't do that, they should play another game. Secondly, the 3 things you mention grill/smoke in basically the same fashion (no major skill or technique changes). The beauty of the egg is it's versatility AND superior performance. It also takes some skill to do it right (not just turn it on and set it). A true competition will bring out the skills of the chef and the quality and versatility of the grill. At the very least, a good competition will include a steak, something smoked, and a freestyle event of the chefs choice (pizza, vegetable, ABT etc). Lack of seasoning is nonsense.

What you suggest is similar to having a mechanics competition between Cat and a shade tree mechanic where the event includes an oil and impeller change on an inboard ski boat. Both would get it done with little variance but what would that prove? People who know Cat know he is a fine mechanic that can do wonderful things with motors and marine equipment....why would anyone want to hold him back in a test of his mechanical skills and the tools he's invested in? Same goes for a grilling/smoking/cooking competition. There is beauty in skill, knowledge, method, tools, and technique and I know Cat would agree. Jus Sayin'!
