Big B BBQ has always had the selections of "Chopped or Sliced" and "Hot or Mild". Years ago I was always a Sliced/Hot fan. We would often stop and eat there on our way to the lake from Sylacauga when they were located on the corner at 280.

Within the past year, I ordered Chopped as I had gotten used to ordering a pound of chopped from Sho-Nuff BBQ, where they give you the sauce to put on yourself. Well, I was somewhat disappointed because the Chopped at Big B already had the sauce mixed in it, and it was a lot of sauce that made the consistency similar to BBQ from a can. Maybe chopped has always been saturated with sauce, but I don't remember, and maybe that is why I traditionally ordered sliced. Personally, I like to control how much sauce I'm putting on my BBQ.

The Hot Sauce now is not as hot as I remember it being 15 years ago when I liked it so much. That issue is easily resolved by using Tobasco Sauce to make it just like I like it. I think it is even better than before when I can control the heat.

So my recommendation is to get Sliced, then whatever sauce you like (adding Tobasco if you need to). We're eating there once every couple of weeks now. If you get a plate instead of a sandwich, it seems that you get larger bite size chucks instead of slices, which is a good thing because you don't have to cut long/thin slices with with your knife. This may depend on what cuts they have made in the kitchen at the time. I like their steak fries too.

As far as the crowds... They benefit greatly from Fishing Tournaments and teams coming in using the nearby SportsPlex.
