Just moved to Lake Martin from North Carolina. Beautiful area! Friendly folks! Water safety and drowning prevention are my passion as drowning is the number one cause of accidental death for infants and young children between the ages of 1-4.
Did not notice any forum topics in this area so just wanted to share some water safety tips as the season has begun (early!)

Supervision - The most critical line of defense is adult supervision. No level of aquatic skill can replace active supervision. If your child is ever missing, look in the water first.

Life jackets - Test your life jacket - please be aware that many life jackets will float your child in a face down position, so test your life jacket before going out on the water.

Towing - When towing children and/or adults in pairs, use the rule when one falls, everyone falls. You never know when someone might be injured in the water.

CPR -If an emergency happens, it is essential parents and families are prepared. Learn to perform CPR on children and adults and remember to update those skills regularly.

Survival swimming lessons - A moment's inattention does not have to cost a child his life. Survival swim training is an added layer of protection, teaching your child water survival skills in a completely safe environment.

You can find much, much more about keeping your family safe in different water environments on InfantSwim.com or download the Aquatic Safety List here www.infantswim.com/assets/docs/FamilyAquaticSafetyList.pdf

Here is to a safe and fun summer on the water!
