I watched 60 Minutes tonight and saw two segments that really bothered me. The first story was about the high unemployment rate in Wilmington, Ohio, which was the Hub for DGH, a competitor of FedEx and UPS that discontinued its operations. Wilmington’s situation was horrible. What really bothered me was the federal dollars sent to Wilmington but no program to create jobs. The high unemployment rate reduced revenue for the city, schools, and good people were hurting. No one was asking for handouts.

The question that came to me was this. This country has offered 100 billion dollars to underdeveloped countries for global warming. What if the government had offered 10,000 people, $30,000 each? How many years would 100 billion dollars last? My calculations said that this condition could continue for 3,300 years.

Another way of asking this. How many people could be paid $30,000 for one year from this 100 billion dollars? Again, the number is astronomical. My calculator say that 100 billion dollars would pay 3.3 million Americans $30,000 each for one year. What is the total number unemployed in this country? And yet we have spent close to 1 trillion dollars in bailouts. This government has no idea as to mange the unemployed or to help create jobs so that they can get back on their feet.

The second subject was the status of the Greek Orthodox Church in Turkey. This Christian group has been in Istanbul (previously Constantinople) for hundreds of years and its members were in the millions. Currently, what is left is being trampled by the Turkish government which is now 99% Moslem. For the first time I saw first hand what happens when Moslems become the majority. They will not tolerate Christianity.

We Americans need to wake up and demand that our government get priorities correct. Unemployment at 17%, which is closer to the real number, cannot continue and is a he&^ of a lot more important that global warming, cap and trade, and universal health care.
